Why We Recommend Privacy Policies on all of the Websites We Design and Host

We get this question a lot: What Is a Privacy Policy, Anyway?

A Privacy Policy is just a page on your website that explains what kind of information you collect from visitors and what you do with it. Even if you’re not asking people for their names, emails, or birth dates, most websites collect some data.

For example:

  • Where your visitors are from
  • What pages they click on
  • How long they stay on your website

This usually happens through website tools like Google Analytics. It might not seem like “personal info,” but in the eyes of privacy laws? It often is.

You might be thinking, “We’re just a small business, we’re not collecting credit card numbers or anything detailed.”

Totally get it. But here’s the thing: If you use contact forms, newsletter signups, appointment schedulers, or even just track basic visitor stats, you’re technically collecting data. And that means you need to let people know. Laws like GDPR and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), apply to any business that serves people, not just big companies. This includes side hustles, and non-profits.

Not sure what to say in your Privacy Policy? No problem. We can point you to templates or help you write something simple and clear that fits your business and website.

So What Should You Do?

We include the option to add a Privacy Policy page with every website we build and always recommend it. Even if you collect the bare minimum, it’s a good way to build trust with visitors and look more professional. Want help adding one to your site? Contact us for details.
